While there is a direct correlation between the health of a company and the health of its employees, statistics show that over 80% of the world's workers still struggle with their overall health and wellbeing. That’s why we’ve rounded up a few easy tips to help you ensure your employees are staying healthy, happy and motivated at work. After all, it is where they spend most of their time (whether they like it or not!)
Encourage all of your staff (including management) to take micro-breaks during the day. It can be as simple as encouraging them to walking away from their desk and do a few stretches, to getting outside for some fresh air. You could also pin posters around the office that show how to activate good sitting posture. Sitting in an upright position and with good posture helps reduce the risk of injuries and back pain. After all, employees spend over seven hours a day sitting at their computer.
Micro-breaks can also help to prevent eyestrain and tension neck syndrome (TNS), which can cause headaches, difficulty focusing and stiffness in the neck and upper shoulders. Ensuring your employees take regular breaks means they are more focused, calmer and productive during the times they are working. It also ensures they go home feeling positive, and come back to work the next day feeling great too.
Depending on your workplace’s resources, a great idea is to provide your employees with healthy lunch options. From sushi to healthy sandwiches, if your employees are eating nutritious lunches, they will work much more efficiently for the rest of the afternoon. And, if you provide the food, there’s no reason for them to say no or reach for something unhealthy! If you don’t have the resources to provide your employees lunch every day, you could always keep a communal bowl of fruit in the kitchen.
It’s also a good idea to encourage your employees to eat mindfully by moving away from their desk or eating outdoors. Or, perhaps you could organise regular team lunches. These are great for socialising and team-bonding, as well as forcing everyone to get out of the office and take a break!
The team at Intygrate, along with our appointed business development specialist - Anna Samios from Samios Partners - were holed up for two days at the Novotel Glen Waverley, VIC for Intygrate’s second Conference - IntyCon 2016. Of course when we say ‘holed up’ we mean having the most exciting and innovative two days ever!
The initial hiccup of delayed flights for the Sydney team travelling to Melbourne, coupled with heavier traffic from Melbourne’s wet and blustery conditions, saw almost all of Intygrate’s team members rise to the challenge of overcoming hurdles (the conference was already a success!) But really, the agility they show in their day-to-day environments was what truly armed them with skills needed to quickly adapt to the travel and weather hazards they encountered.
IntyCon 2016 was a whirlwind of innovation, creativity and strategic planning. The launch of ‘Intygrate’s Strategic Plan’ will take us from now until 2027! It sounds like a long way off, but in reality, it’s only 10 years away. We know, that’s a very scary thought! Another highlight of Intycon 2016 was discussing with the team about our first product, which is currently in its production phase and due to launch in April 2017. Listening to the team's ideas and feedback provided an ideal opportunity to work on the sales pitch and refine techniques, as well as being able to address concerns and calm any fears the team may have had.
Under Anna’s skilled guidance, each team member profiled themselves utilising the Wiley “DISC” Profile System. This was to discover whether they were a ‘Dominant’, ‘Influential’, ‘Steady’, or ‘Compliant’ personality. It was certainly a relief to hear that we have a strong mix of all personality types intygrated into the company, which complement each other well.
At the end our productive two days, our team members were armed with a destination through the unveiling of the Company BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals!), in addition to the strong beginnings of pathways and roadmaps to get us there. Yet as with all journeys, I am sure there will be some bumps along the way! However, we are a strong and agile team, and if we can handle Melbourne’s haphazard weather, we can handle anything.
